- Bulk density: 0.5 to 0.8gm/cc
- Permeability: 35 to 45

Advantages:
- 1. Minimum heat loss from riser.
- 2. No metal penetration, clean strip from risers.
- 3. Highly resilient nature, can withstand shock and impact while jolting / squeezing.
- 4. Very low feed metal requirement. About 15% to 18%reduction in that for conventional sand riser sizes.
- 5. Supplied in prefabricated shapes.
